Barbara Byrd

Barbara Byrd worked as a Senior Instructor at the Labor Education and Research Center, University of Oregon in Portland for 20 years. She served as Oregon’s AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer for 14 years. In her 41-year career, she’s trained hundreds of union leaders across four states, promoted the apprenticeship model of job training, and urged labor organizations to confront climate change. She earned a Ph.D.in Adult Education from the University of Austin, Texas, an M.S. in Labor Studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and a B.A. in Sociology from Rice University.
