Chris Ross, WSCFF 2nd District Representative
We’re here at the half-way point of the year, and it’s been a busy 2025 here in the 2nd District.
We have new leadership in a number of locals, with 2 new local presidents. Along with that, we have been experiencing the same explosion of hiring as the rest of the state. Our locals responded by taking advantage of training opportunities, sending a record number of members to the 2025 IAFF 7th District New Members Conference.
Although the majority of the WSCFF events travel around the state, we are honored to have the WSCFF Legislative Conference in our District every year. Members from Locals 468 Olympia and 2903 Lacey worked hard (as usual) to help with the event. And, we had excellent representation at that conference, with over half of our locals represented to help with the lobbying efforts. The 2025 IAFF-WSCFF Jointly Sponsored Educational Seminar, and the 2024 WSCFF Convention saw good participation from the District, as well.
As we move in to the “slow” part of the year, planning is underway for a District Mini-Educational Seminar to take place sometime this fall. More information will be available once everything is finalized.
Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t recognize the hard work of our small locals. We are excited, and honored, to have our 4th representative to DVP Walsh’s Executive Leadership Series, with Leighton Wright of Local 4075 Grays Harbor attending Class 4 of ELS.
