4th District Report

Reed Astley, 4th District Representative

Spring is always a busy time for the State Council, and this year is no different. We have just finished our Educational Seminar and New Members Conference in Kennewick, and now we’re preparing for the Convention in Marysville. And of course, our representatives are hard at work on our behalf down in Olympia. (The great work they are doing deserves its own section, please see our legislative updates!)

The 4th District had a great turnout at the Educational Seminar in April, and I’m looking forward to seeing many of you at the Convention. This year’s Educational Seminar featured another outstanding lineup of presenters, offering classes on union roles, member representation, health and wellness, and numerous other topics designed to support our members in achieving long, healthy careers and retirements.

President Lawson and the leadership team have been meeting with Locals around the state, attending the general Union meetings to touch base and connect with our members. If he has already participated in yours, I hope it was enlightening and piqued your curiosity. If not, ask your e-board when the visit is scheduled. As always, I encourage anyone with questions about what your union does at any level not to be shy! Step up, ask questions, and attend events. That’s how future leaders are identified and become involved!

This will be my last update as your WSCFF 4th District Representative. I will not be running for re-election at the Convention this June. It has been the highlight of my two-decade career to represent my brothers and sisters in the 4th District and to serve as part of the leadership of the Washington State Council of Fire Fighters. I have thoroughly enjoyed the work and will miss it! I am confident that I am leaving this district and the state in very capable hands.

Thank you again for making my time serving you so enjoyable. I hope to see many of you in Marysville this June!
