Chris Barney

Chris Barney is currently a Lieutenant with Lacey Fire District 3, Local 2903. He started his fire service career as a volunteer in 1998 and has been with Lacey since 2005. He has been heavily involved in special operations and is a member of Lacey’s water rescue team as a Rapid Entry Rescue Swimmer and Swift Water Technician. He was one of the founding members of Thurston County’s SORT team, where he served as the Training Coordinator and Rope Rescue Instructor until stepping down to pursue other goals. He is also a member of the PEER support team and is involved in writing and developing resiliency training.
Behavioral health has become Chris’s primary focus. He is currently a Counseling/Psychology major at Arizona State University and believes that understanding human performance factors improves mental and physical performance, as well as resilience.
