Bill Mack, July 18, 2025

With heavy hearts, the WSCFF reports the Line-of-Duty Death of our colleague, friend, and former 8th District Representative Bill Mack on July 18, 2025.

Bill was elected WSCFF 8th District Representative in 2013 and served in that role until 2021, when he was selected as Deputy Chief with East Pierce Fire and Rescue. As the first chair of the WSCFF Standing Public Relations Committee, he led the effort to develop and implement an ambitious, statewide public relations campaign to better understand and improve upon how firefighters were perceived in their communities. In 2017, he collaborated with the committee to redesign the organization’s new member orientation program, Power through Participation, converting it from a notebook of information to a series of videos and a PowerPoint presentation available on the website.

In 2018, Bill worked to pass Resolutions 18-19 Diversity Hiring & Recruitment and 18-20 Human Relations Education. He was instrumental in creating the WSCFF Standing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. Bill was committed to removing barriers to entry into the fire service, striving to create a more diverse and inclusive profession that reflects the communities our members serve.

In 2021, Bill received the WSCFF Ricky J. Walsh Fully Involved Award, presented to those who have, as union members, proven their commitment to the greater good, dedicated their time and energy to better their local and/or those around them, and have placed others before self.

Bill Mack dedicated over 30 years to the fire service, beginning his career with the City of Auburn Fire Department in 1992. He rose through the ranks at Valley Regional Fire Authority, serving in key leadership roles, including Battalion Chief. In 2021, he brought his leadership and passion for mentorship to East Pierce Fire & Rescue as Deputy Chief, where he continued to make a lasting impact until his retirement in 2023.

Throughout his career, BIll was a champion for training and development. He taught CPR and EMT skills, led multi-agency regional training efforts, and helped shape the careers of countless firefighters and officers across King and Pierce counties. His service extended far beyond emergency response, volunteering with organizations like the Nick of Time Foundation, always putting community first.

Bill was a force of joy and positivity, kindness, and compassion. His smile, laugh, welcoming demeanor, and most of all, his ability to spin stories made the world a brighter place. He will be deeply missed.

We extend our deepest condolences to Bill’s loving wife and children. We will share details regarding memorial services and ways to honor Bill’s life and legacy as they become available.
